The emphasis, however, is that the new life in Christ is to be exemplified by joy, both in challenging times when resolve and resilience are required, and at moments when thanksgiving is more spontaneous (Wilson 2005: 110–11). 12 As was noted in the introductory comments to this section, a number of commentators take Col. 1:12–14 as a separate unit, or connect it more closely with the poetic section that follows it, rather than with the prayer that precedes it. There
